Antique Brass-Bound Rosewood Writing Slope, c.1850 Nice quality mid-19th century English brass-bound writing slope in richly figured rosewood, dating to around 1850. The rectangular case is fitted with brass corner straps, side campaign-style flush handles, and a shaped brass escutcheon to the lock, with a matching cartouche to the lid engraved E.L.H.. The richly grained rosewood displays beautiful figuring and a warm, well-developed patina, complemented by the mellow tone of the brass mounts. The slope opens to reveal its original dark blue velvet writing surface, with compartments for inkwell, pens, and small accessories. Beneath the writing surfaces are two storage compartments for papers and documents. Retains a fitted brass-mounted inkwell and key. Attractive colour. Some missing veneer to the side and some marks in align with age. Velvet worn and marked to the interior, some looseness to writing surface as pictured. Inkwell and key present. Newly baized to the underside Dimensions: Width 46 cm × Depth 26 cm × Height 17 cm
