Fine 19th Century Marble Figure of Venus on Fluted Mahogany Pedestal Fine 19th century carved white marble figure of Venus, depicted standing upon a shell in the classical manner, and raised on a fluted mahogany column pedestal. The figure is executed in a restrained Neoclassical taste, with flowing hair and a modest contrapposto stance. While clearly inspired by earlier classical models, the work has the character of a later decorative piece, intended for interior display rather than academic or Grand Tour production. The accompanying pedestal, in mahogany, is of fluted column form and complements the figure well in both scale and proportion. Dimensions Height (overall): 158 cm Height (figure): 52 cm Width: 48 cm Depth: 26 cm Condition In good overall condition. There is a small loss to a finger on the right hand, some surface discolouration to the marble, and light wear to the pedestal, all consistent with age and use.
