Regency Carved Wood Composition Pelmet by D.J. McLauchlan A magnificent Regency-era carved wood composition pelmet by the esteemed carver and gilder D.J. McLauchlan, London. The piece showcases exquisite craftsmanship with its true gold leaf gilded finish, highlighted by intricate foliate carvings and a central floral motif. The back of the carving is lined in rich burgundy, adding depth and warmth to the design. Dimensions: Width: 222.5 cm (87 3/4 in) Depth: 48 cm (19 in) Height: 50 cm (19 1/2 in) This exceptional pelmet was originally sourced from Staunton Park, Leominster, and purchased from Harrods' antique department over 40 years ago. It remains in good condition, with light wear to the gold leaf finish and a small, age-appropriate repair to the central foliate carving. These signs of age are consistent with its historical provenance and enhance its character. Condition: Good condition commensurate with age. The gold leaf finish shows light marks and wear, consistent with its age and use. There is a small, age-appropriate repair to the central carving, which does not detract from the overall beauty or integrity of the piece. The gilded surface retains a warm patina, and the piece remains structurally sound.
