Pair of Antique Hand Painted Porcelain Plaques in 9ct Gold Mounts – Sailor Portraits A charming pair of antique hand-painted porcelain portrait plaques, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. Each plaque features a finely painted bust-length portrait of an old sailor smoking a pipe, wearing traditional seafarer’s garb including a sou’wester and beard. The portraits are executed with strong detail and character, typical of continental or English miniature painting of the period. Set in 9ct gold mounts with attached suspension loops. The loops are hallmarked “9ct” confirming the gold content. These may originally have served as medallions, watch chain pendants, or commemorative miniatures.
