Victorian Gilt Chatelaine Magnifying Glass with Ornate Floral Handle English or Continental, circa 1870–1890 A finely made Victorian-era chatelaine magnifying glass, crafted in gilt metal—possibly rolled gold—with delicate floral repoussé decoration throughout. The rectangular lens is held in a slender gilt frame, hinged to a cylindrical handle terminating in a double-loop finger ring. The piece folds neatly and would once have hung from a lady’s chatelaine or ribbon chain, used for reading or inspecting embroidery, jewellery, or fine print. No hallmark is visible, though the quality of the work suggests a continental or rolled gold finish. There is a small hairline visible at the junction of the lens and frame (as shown), but the magnifier remains structurally sound and fully functional. The lens is clear and undamaged. Dimensions: 7.2 cm × 3.7 cm × 0.5 cm Weight: 10.1 grams Condition: Good condition overall with light surface wear to the gilding. No hallmark. Minor age-related stress crack near the lens frame. An attractive and functional 19th-century personal accessory, ideal for collectors of antique vanity items and chatelaine pieces.
