Fine Cased Set of Six Silver-Gilt Apostle Spoons by Deakin & Francis – Birmingham, 1919 A superb set of six large and ornately cast silver-gilt (vermeil) spoons, each featuring a unique and highly decorative figural terminal, likely representing historical or allegorical figures in the tradition of apostle or commemorative spoons. Crafted in sterling silver and richly gilded, each spoon showcases a finely detailed stem — several with twisted shafts — and bowls with soft gilded interiors, all housed in their original fitted presentation case. Maker: Deakin & Francis Ltd Assay Office: Birmingham Date Letter: u for 1919 Material: Sterling silver, gilt Length (each spoon): Approximately 19 cm Total weight: 386.5 grams (individual weights: 63.2 g, 68.3 g, 69.1 g, 60.5 g, 64.2 g, 61.2 g) Case dimensions: 32 cm x 23 cm The original fitted case is of good quality, clad in brown leather with gold tooling and lined with royal blue velvet and silk. The spoons are well preserved with expected age-related wear to the gilding, adding to their antique charm.
