Victorian E. M. & Co. Jug with Pewter Lid
A decorative 19th-century earthenware jug by Edge, Malkin & Co. (E.M. & Co), dating to circa 1860–1880. The jug is decorated in an Imari-style palette of cobalt blue, iron red, and gilt, with hand-painted floral motifs and foliate scrolls. Gilded bands and moulded detailing encircle the collar, and the piece retains its original fitted pewter lid.
The base is stamped in red with the E.M. & Co. trademark featuring a dog above a ribbon, a mark used by Edge, Malkin & Co. of Burslem, Staffordshire, during the mid to late 19th century.
Measurements:
Approx. 16 cm wide × 13 cm deep × 21 cm high
Condition:
Fair decorative condition. A long, visible glued crack curves around one side of the body, as shown. Some wear to the gilding and minor surface marks consistent with age.
