Antique Georgian Copper Tavern Tankard – Engraved, c.1800
A fine antique Georgian copper tankard, dating to the late 18th or early 19th century.
Of traditional tavern form, with a flared rim, banded foot and a shaped handle. The front is engraved in flowing script, likely bearing the original owner's name or that of an establishment. The surface shows a warm patina with traces of hand-hammering and wear from long use.
The underside is oxidised, displaying typical age-related verdigris and evidence of its hand-crafted construction.
Measurements:
Height: 16 cm
Width at base: 12 cm (excluding handle)
Condition:
Good antique condition with wear and surface marks consistent with age. No major dents or structural damage. Oxidation and verdigris to the base, as expected in period copper.
