Pair of French Bronzed Spelter Urns with Bacchic Masks and Putti, Circa 1880
A decorative and finely modelled pair of late 19th-century French urns, cast in spelter with a dark bronze patination.
Each urn of lobed baluster form, mounted with Bacchic masks wreathed in fruit and flowers, and adorned with entwined vine handles. The domed lids are surmounted by seated putti, while the bases feature playful cherubs gathering grapes beside baskets and musical instruments, all raised on circular turned wooden plinths.
Both measure 26 x 25 x 49 (height) cm
Good decorative condition overall. Some old repaired damage and surface wear consistent with age; one urn with damage and repair to the upper rim, as pictured. Both show holes to the base, suggesting at some point a lamp conversion. Patination with some wear; wooden bases with typical age-related scuffs. Both lids present and removable. Present well
