Pair of French Bronze and Marble Urns
France, circa 1870
A decorative pair of 19th-century French urns in the neoclassical style, finely cast and mounted in gilt and patinated bronze on black marble plinths. Each urn of campana form with twin scroll handles, the bodies applied with gilt bronze friezes of masks and scrolling foliage in the Louis XVI manner.
The urns are raised on circular gilt bronze socles and stepped marble bases of good weight, the contrast between dark patinated bronze and ormolu producing a refined, classical appearance typical of the Napoleon III period.
Dimensions:
Width: 19 cm
Depth: 13 cm
Height: 32.5 cm
Condition:
Good overall condition with light age-related wear and small marks to the marble plinths; gilding lightly rubbed in places.
