Fine British Bronze Ship's Bell with Crowned GR Cipher
British, Circa 1940
A substantial and authentic British bronze ship's bell of traditional form, bearing a finely engraved crowned GR royal cipher to the shoulder. Cast in heavy bronze with a broad flared rim and retaining its original iron suspension yoke and internal clapper, the bell possesses the character and presence associated with working maritime equipment of the period.
The bronze surface has developed an attractive naturally aged patina, displaying warm golden highlights alongside areas of verdigris and oxidation acquired through years of service. Accompanied by a rope pull terminating in a turned wooden handle, the bell remains both a decorative and functional object, producing a clear resonant tone when struck.
